Join AMICAL colleagues for an event on developing campus-level responses to generative AI.
We’ll be focusing on questions at the institutional and organizational level, rather than the individual classroom or job level.
- How are we organizing ourselves across different stakeholder groups across campus to develop policies, guidelines, support, resources, etc.?
- How are we connecting those actions to institutional strategy?
- What kind of organizational or political challenges are coming up, and how are you dealing with them?
- How can we ensure that our institutional response is informed by the disciplinary perspectives of colleagues in areas particularly concerned by AI?
Given the roles of AMICAL colleagues, the conversation will be anchored in the academic side of our institutions, but the scope of the discussion will necessarily reach across other parts of campus as well.
Event outline
Panel + Q&A (1 hr): A small, informal panel conversation that will focus initially on the American University in Cairo, which got an early and active start on developing a coordinated approach to genAI issues across campus. AUC colleagues will talk about high level principles and strategies for AI in higher education, trends, and how AUC has leveraged all that for their community. We’ll then hear experiences and perspectives from a few other AMICAL institutions. Panelists’ comments will be followed by audience Q&A.
Breakouts (30 min): Attendees can choose a breakout room for peer discussion/workshopping/consulting on a given topic, then we’ll reconvene to share highlights from the groups. The list of topics will depend on interest expressed by attendees but may include:
- Discussing first steps in thinking about strategy & coordination
- Outlining your own next steps at your campus & getting peer feedback
- Peer group consultation on a specific challenge you’re facing
- Challenges for coordinating responses among specific stakeholder groups or units
- Focused discussion on high-interest sub-topics arising from the panel
Come away with…
- Examples of campus-level resources created at AUC and other AMICAL institutions
- Basic strategies and next steps for contributing to campus-level responses at your own institution
- Solutions for problems you’re facing related to policies, guidelines, stakeholder engagement, etc.
