Unconference
The unconference brings attendees together in informal, ad-hoc sessions, based on common interests, questions or projects. These sessions allow participants to shape the conference program to serve their own learning by leveraging the expertise and excitement of their AMICAL peers.
Unconference sessions share the following characteristics:
- They’re informal
- Participants set the agenda
- Focus on discussion and exchange of ideas and practices
Any AMICAL member can propose and lead a session. Ideas for unconference sessions can come up at any time, before or during the conference.
Unconference sessions can be group discussions, consulting sessions with a peer expert, or even impromptu workshops. Preparing slides or presentation material for unconference sessions in advance of the conference is strongly discouraged.
How to pitch an idea for an unconference session
Starting from January 14 and until 16:00 on Thursday 16 January, you can submit an idea for a session you’d like to lead using this form:
You will be asked to deliver a 30-60 second pitch of your idea during a plenary session of AMICAL members, starting at 16:15 on Thursday.
Pitches that generate sufficient attendee interest will be assigned a venue to run in one of two slots on Friday 17 Jan:
- Morning: 10:15-11:15
- Afternoon: 15:30-16:30
The list of ideas will always be available on the online board. Note only those ideas which are pitched, receive member interest, and assigned venues, will actually run.
Post-session follow up
Session leaders and participants are encouraged to post descriptions and outcomes of their unconference sessions on the AMICAL 2020 space on AMICAL Connect.
