Accommodation

There are several options for accommodations for AMICAL 2023 attendees, but reservations will be handled differently depending on which of the following categories you’re in:

Current staff/faculty at AMICAL Full/Affiliate member institutions

  • AMICAL will cover the cost of your accommodation if you stay at either the Al Akhawayn Conference Center (ACC) or in AUI on-campus housing. You will not be able to choose the location or room type; we will assign you a room at one of these locations based on availability and the priority of your request.
  • Reserve this AMICAL-covered accommodation using the AMICAL 2023 registration form.

Current staff/faculty at AMICAL Network member institutions

  • A limited number of rooms at the Al Akhawayn Conference Center (ACC) are available for reservation by Network members at your own expense, at the cost of MAD 750 per night.
  • Reserve this accommodation using the AMICAL 2023 registration form.

Invited speakers

  • AMICAL will cover the cost of your accommodation at the Al Akhawayn Conference Center (ACC).
  • Reserve your room using the AMICAL 2023 registration form.

Other attendees (sponsors, invited guests, AMICAL alumni)

  • You will be responsible for all your hotel costs.
  • As the Al Akhawayn Conference Center (ACC) and AUI on-campus housing will be fully booked, you should book your accommodations with one of the “Alternative Options” described below, using Booking.com or phoning directly at the numbers indicated.

Beware of “travel agency” scams

We have had reports of “travel agencies” contacting expected conference attendees, offering to help book their travel. The one that some of our members have been contacted by is “Traveller Point”, but there may be others. These are not affiliated with either AMICAL or Al Akhawayn University and seem to be some form of scam or phishing attempt. For any information related to the conference, always refer to our website, which will be kept up-to-date, and email contact@amicalnet.org if you’re in doubt about anything you are sent.

In booking your accommodation, you should only use the methods we’ve indicated on the AMICAL 2023 Accommodation page. In booking your airfare, you should only book a ticket with a service or agency that you are familiar with and trust.

AUI Housing

Invited speakers and AMICAL members who request accommodation will be housed at the Al Akhawayn Conference Center (ACC) and, if we run out of space there, on-campus housing at AUI (dorms).

Because of limited room availability:

  • We can only books rooms for the nights surrounding your conference participation. Specifically:
    • Check-in on the the day before your first participation day
    • Check-out from Ifrane on the the day after your last participation day
  • Participants wishing to stay in Morocco beyond the 27 May check out date will need to look for alternative accommodations, since AUI housing will not be able to provide rooms beyond the conference. An optional sightseeing trip to Fes will be organized after the event with a separate sign up that will involve an overnight stay in Fes. The costs of the trip will be up to participants to cover, including ground transport to the airports of Casablanca or Fes afterwards.

Al Akhawayn Conference Center (ACC)

The main accommodation venue for AMICAL 2023 is the Al Akhawayn Conference Center (ACC), located about 4.6km from the AUI Campus.

The ACC is located in a gated residence affiliated with the university. When hosting events, the conference center also functions as a hotel. It has a restaurant where participants will have breakfast and dinners during the conference (and on the first day, lunch). The ACC has an open Wi-Fi network (“AUI Guest”). Participants wishing to stay in Morocco beyond the 27 May check out date will need to look for alternative accommodations, since the conference center will not have rooms available beyond the conference. We will be providing options for sightseeing tours after the event.

Participants traveling with partners or families should be aware that rooms have only one bed and that the ACC does not have extra beds or cots available. We will book rooms with a double bed for those who indicate they will be traveling with an accompanying person on the registration form.

On-campus housing (dorms)

The on-campus housing option offers basic accommodation in a dormitory-style room with a single bed and en suite private bathroom (shower + toilet). All participants will be housed in the same building on campus and will have access to breakfast at the on-campus restaurant. Colleagues staying here will have access to the campus Wi-Fi.

Alternative Options (for those not staying at AUI Housing)

NB: Email is not very reliable as a medium of communication for hotels in Ifrane. Participants are advised to go through Booking.com or to call the telephone numbers provided. Most hotel reception desks will have someone with limited English proficiency, but Arabic or French is helpful.

L’Empreinte is a large cafe, restaurant, and hotel in downtown Ifrane. It is centrally located and about 1.5km from the center of the AUI campus. This is the only hotel from which we will offer transport to the campus.

Other options

Résidence Ifrane Palace

Located close to the town’s central market (marché), the Ifrane Palace is about 3.5km from AUI Central campus (a 40 minute walk on a nice day, or a 12 MAD taxi ride). Its decor is kitschy and fun.

Michlifen Resort

The Michlifen is a deluxe resort hotel with an affiliated golf course. It is by far the nicest, and most expensive, option in Ifrane. It is located right next to the AUI campus and overlooks the city and region.
